Course Aims

The Master’s programme is designed to provide participants with the cultural, technical and methodological tools necessary for the design of open spaces in an urban context, both public and private, from an intermediate to a small scale of analysis. Of particular concern will be the design of contemporary gardens, conceived as places of experimentation and research for innovative solutions: in the areas of eco-design planting, cultivation and maintenance techniques, water-sensitive devices, materials used and a renewed aesthetic and figurative vocabulary.

The distinctive feature of IMaGOS is its practice-oriented training: the garden is considered as a living practice field where students can explore planting techniques, use of different materials, shaping the terrain, management guidelines, identifying the right materials for open spaces, all of this under the able guidance of international teachers and/or professionals, experts in their individual disciplines. Students will also have the opportunity to work on urban areas made available by the Municipality of Bergamo.

Learning outcomes

The Programme will work towards the formation of professionals with technical competence, with the ability to operate in an international context, with expertise in the planning of landscape and open spaces and in the management of green work sites with particuar reference to the areas of intermediate- and small-scale landscape and gardens. The trained professional will thus be able to fill the role of a technical expert with the ability to understand, communicate and work in a landscape of intermediate scale. A professional formation of this kind is not presented anywhere in   Italy as of now.
